A search for \”A search for * on Google\” on Google turned up 1,800 hits!

Well, I wanted to write something about how annoying it is when people justify what they\’re writing about by pointing out how many search results Google turns up on the subject, but I was scooped – Lies, Damned Lies, and Google by Lionel Beehner (and it looks like he got paid, too).

Of course Google turns up a million hits when you type in just about any word, or combination of words, for that matter. That\’s just what Google does. Beehner\’s article criticizes journalists for using in this lazy/foolheaded device, which actually surprises me, since I thought journalists would know better.

By the way, there\’s some debate about what happens when you search for \”Google\” on Google. Some argue that Google filters out content that is critical of Google. Here\’s an article that claims the opposite; that searches for \”Google\” on Google turn up more links to non-Google pages than searches for the same term on other engines.

12 uses of the word \”Google\” in four paragraphs, that\’s Googlific! Ugh.
